A rare Takumar
Takumar 58mm f2.4 on a Pentax 'AP' camera from 1957.
I've been looking for one of these rare lenses for a long time, and finally found one attached (as it would have been new) to an Asahi Pentax camera. This camera was the first modern Japanese SLR.
Made in 1957, the lens has a Heliar type design. The third design type that Asahi Optical tried for 55/58mm lenses - alongside the Gaussian (Ultron) and the Sonnar. Eventually the Ultron type design was chosen for all Takumar 50/55s.
Apparently, the Takumar 58mm f2.4 was the first lens made with a M42 mount, a redesign of an earlier M37 mount lens.
A good source of information on early Takumar lenses is here:

I've been trying out this lens for some time now (but no pictures posted yet) and it's a fine lens. The results not harmed by the rather poor condition (dents and scratches) of the lens. I was very happy to find this lens, in any condition....
