Sampler

On Sunday we went to a car boot - just to look for hand sewing machines for 'Tools with a Mission'. All we found was a long spirit level for £2.50, but then just as we were leaving I spotted this little embroidery on a junk stall.

Now I've watched enough 'Bargain Hunts' to know that the date, and the age of the child who's worked it, is everything, so,although tiny, I managed to read

Ann ......Worked in the Fourteenth Year of Her Age 1762'.

Was on the verge of collapse by this time, especially as the stall holder had marked it at £12, and was prepared to accept a tenner!

Yesterday we took it to Bamford's in Matlock to one of their Valuation Days - which was a great experience. One glance from the valuer when it eventually became my turn, and he said

'Print of an old sampler' and all our hopes of fame and fortune were dashed!

Never mind it had been great fun while it lasted!
