The Stronghold Unit of Badlands National Park is embedded in the Pine Ridge Sioux Reservation and is jointly run by the National Park Service and the Sioux Tribe.
The photo was taken on Thanksgiving morning in 2017. It was a wonderful sunrise and I have made several attempts over the years to re-edit this photo to do the scene justice - as I remember it. This is my latest attempt.
I think the lights on the horizon near the right border are at Kyle, South Dakota.
