Storm Front

6/16/2017

Near Arbor Lake Wetlands

Lincoln, Nebraska

I had gone out here hunting for Tiger Beetles. It wasn't a good day for that because this storm blew in. I took 4 series of photos of this storm as it approached. I never did more than put the panoramas together for most of the photos. Years ago I posted one of those panoramas which was the very first series. A few days ago I went back and did a more thorough edit of the other 3 series because I thought I would like to have a print of this storm. This photo is the second series which I decided I liked better than the others. This photo is a combination of 24 photos shot in portrait mode in 2 rows of 12 covering about 135 degrees of the horizon. All of the photos were taken hand held. The use of a tripod was not a possibility because the wind was blowing about 50 mph and I was having trouble standing relatively still in the wind. It was surprising that the panorama stitched so well. Torrential rain with hail was no more than about a half mile away at this point. The last series of panorama photos was taken just two minutes after this set when the rain arrived and I had to retreat to the car.
