The words below the paintings are a portion of the Gettysburg Address.

 

The plaque of the wall at the top is a commemoration of the 16th U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln, for whom the city of Lincoln, Nebraska is named. The plaque on the bottom is a copy of the "Memorial Day Order" establishing the U.S. national holiday of Memorial Day. The plaque on the right is a listing of the Nebraska recipients of the Medal of Honor, the highest U.S. military award for bravery in battle.
