Coade Stone Pillar, Portobello
This pillar is one of three, rescued from the garden of Arglye House, off Portobello High Street. The pillars are made of press-moulded blocks of Coade stone, a process invented by Eleanor Coade (1773 - 1821). The designs on the smaller pillars are identical to those on the chimneys of Dalmeny House, South Queensferry. In 2006, the pillars were erected in the new Community Graden with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
