Bottle Kiln, Portobello

Pottery Kiln at Portobello, Near Edinburgh, Scotland. A W Buchan & Co, extended the pottery across the site of the old harbour and three bottle kilns were built. These are the only surviving remnants of a thriving industry that was established over 200 years ago.

Firing the kiln took a week. Two days to pack, two days and 840Kg Coal to reach stoneware temperature, two days to cool and a day to unpack.
