Rochdale Canal, Littleborough

The road bridge at Halifax road can just be seen through the arch of the canal footbridge. Taken from Lock 48 on the Rochdale Canal. The canal has recently been restored and reopened at a cost of some 50 million pounds. It was in its heyday in the1880s when there was an annual traffic of some 800,000 tons. Approxiamtely 50 narrowboat barges per day.
