statistocrat
Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (The Hague). 'Haags Gemeentemuseum'. Foyer.
Architect: H.P.Berlage (1856-1934).
The museum (opened 29-05-1935) was his final work. (His son-in-law E.E. Strasser completed the building of the museum.)
The museum is a mix of rationalism and jugendstill.
In the foyer stands since 2-12-2016 a new artwork from Atelier Van Lieshout (Joep van Lieshout). The artwork is named “Henry, de Statistocrat”.
The 8-meter-high sculpture includes a reception desk and is a wink to the 'competition' between H. P. Berlage, and his Belgian colleague and contemporary: Henry Van de Velde.
(Henry van den Velde, 1863-1957: painter, designer and architect; architect of the Kröller-Müller Museum).
Symmetry versus asymmetry: nice combination.
Text on wallpainting: “Eer het god’lijk licht in d’openbaringen van de kunst”
