A Lucky Escape For Me

Just as I was putting the Catfish back down onto the safety cradle. I heard that sound you don't want to hear coming from a Catfish's vent. Like a anal acoustics. They make a squeaking like sound sometimes, then fart out broken down bait, or food they have already digested. Some call it releasing a squeaker. It can be a bit of a stink bomb at times. Not a smell you could blame onto a dog. A type of under burp.

On this occasion my Krill boilies that I had been soaking in fish oils, cloudy Krill liquid, and Oyster sauce, was now being released in total liquid form.

I can handle fish slyme on my tracksuit top during a few photographs, but if I held him up for another two seconds. I would of been smothered in Catfish excrement all over my jogging bottoms. Try explaining that when you go up the chip shop later.

That's why I always carry plenty of spare clothes when fishing. Though the catfish won't leave my carp baits alone of late. They seem more interested in them, than chasing small fish around the lake. Or picking up baits catfish anglers use.

I have landed six Wels catfish recently, in the four times I've been this year now. From two different lakes. The biggest one so far is 40Lb 4oz. Though I've lost four others. They were just far too powerful for the tackle I am using to catch carp on.
