Rendezvous Point
This is a practical shot using forced perspective techniques. I had to work fast to get this image. After finishing the diorama and getting the appropriate toys ready, I knew I wanted to take the final forced perspective image at Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other ideas. Weather reports showed that the mountain was going to be mostly socked in for the next 10 days of snow and rain with limited visibility of the peak. I had been checking weather cams regularly only to see the mountain covered by clouds. But then on a random check I was surprised to see blue skies!!! But…the mountain is 70 miles away (about 1.5 hours) and I didn’t know how long this window would last.
I decided to chance it and quickly threw my gear in the car and headed up. Luckily it was still clear when I got there but I could see clouds moving in quickly. I barely had time to set up my diorama and pose the figures as more clouds rolled in. I just started shooting with my iPhone.
After about 10 minutes of shooting, the clouds completely made the background pure white out and suddenly I’m standing in a snow storm. There wasn’t any more I could do so I climbed in the car and drove home. 3 hours of driving for 10 minutes of shooting.
I would have liked to have taken my time with different poses and compositions but this is all I had time for.
