old hardware store

the story behind these pictures is hard to believe. every thing you see here is a time capsule of sorts. I don't remember all the details but it is something like this. about 1949 the owner of this hardware closed his doors to the public to simplify his life after an illness and just work one job. he lived in the top part of the building raised several children. in the mean time he just put the inventory aside and used half of the store as a workshop (imagine having a stocked hardware store as a workshop) in 2004 the remaining heir allowed a few people that do estate sales to go in clean and rearrange all the store stock back to its original display according to pictures. it was walking back in time and what you see is exactly like the photos I saw. the day before the sale we drove up there to get a peak at the happenings. to our surprise they were allowing small groups of people to tour the store. there were people lined up for hours to get in and buy up the items. To our surprise the prices were reasonable and could have been a lot higher. the bottom line these guys got a flat rate to put this together and the amount of time it took I will bet they made less than minimum wage to pull this off. they wanted to recreate this for the public to see, and money wasn't an issue to the last family member.

anyway what a treat this was to see
