"Grenadier Guards"

In The Royal Guild of St Sebastian of Bruges, in 1656, the exiled future British King Charles II created the Grenadier Guards (and in 1658 the Life Guards) to be his personal bodyguards and defend his allies in the Low Countries from French invasion.

After helping to restore the monarchy in Britain in 1660, these British Troops have gone on to fight with distinction against oppression on Belgian soil for centuries, most notably at Waterloo and in two World Wars.

It is their 360th anniversary and they have come to celebrate their origin!

In commemoration and gratitude the Belgian Government and Government of Flanders are hosting a series of parades and events this weekend for Britain's First Regiment of Foot Guards.

I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*)
