CAPTAIN SYDNEY SMITH BRIDGE...

Captain Sydney Smith Bridge, Scarborough new harbour.

This bridge in Vincent's Pier can be raised to allow access for masted craft to the new (east) harbour.

According to a plaque, it was opened in September 2000 by the local MP in the presence of Captain Sydney Smith MBE, onetime deputy harbourmaster, naval commander and latterly an environmental campaigner.

Capt Smith died and the bridge was subsequently named in his honour.

It is a much used footbridge, and a great focal point in a photo!

Have a super day and as always thank you for your comments, Magda, (*_*)
