STILL FILLS ME WITH EMOTION...

MEET Mr. G...
I got a commission a few years ago, by the family of a gentleman, their father, to photograph a year in his garden.
So I would drive up the hills where he lived, on a regular basis.
Always lovely, as you will read on each image.
Some encounters leave you with long-lasting impressions.
I still think of it, with a little melancholy and emotion...
And that year was certainly one of them!
I loved each season.
What a splendid project!
And of course, as per usual, I could not resist some photos just for me...
From the first day I met him, he insisted I call him by his first name Ted, I never have, this tall gentleman impressed me so much with his polite manner and behaviour of a bygone era, I only call him Mr G.....…
Now having lived in this house for over 50 years, it is HIS garden, and on our rounds, during the different seasons, he’d name me every tree, shrub, flower, not only that, he is able to tell you how, when and why he got them, some wonderful stories, the birth of his first daughter… a wedding anniversary, from a holiday to here or there…
We exchanged quite a number of plants and cuttings, happy as kids in giving and receiving, sharing beauty!
I first photographed the shoes, in my waltz for the right composition, I noticed the chair with the cushion, by then he was back with a choice of biscuits from his larder, I asked him to come and sit for me, he did with great reluctance and head-shaking, protestation about his ‘gardening clothes’, not being dressed for the occasion, well, ok, then, don’t take too long!
Only when he saw the portrait did he understand he ‘needed’ to be in the album of ‘A year in the garden of…’
I saw the joy and the emotion in his and his family’s faces when they viewed it the first time, again, the importance of (portrait) photography, he?
Wishing you a sunny and colourful day and thanx for visiting, M, (*_*)
