Les DUNES BLONDES de MA JEUNESSE...

The cold is visible in the tonalities!

Helmet or lyme grass (Ammophila arenaria), also known as dune grass, is a perennial plant belonging to the grass family (Poaceae). It is a pioneer plant that is important in the formation of dunes. The plant produces long rhizomes and where these rhizomes to come into contact with light, it creates a new shoot.

To capture the sand seawall on the coast of Belgium, they planted helmet. The meter long roots of the plant search the depths of the freshwater line which is a few meters below the dune, but above the salt water in the sand. The plant protects itself against salt water through a symbiotic relationship with a special mold to its roots, which regulates water and salt supply to the plant.
