068 LOST TO THE WORLD…
DAY 4
The horses and coach drivers take a break on the market in Brugge.
A closer look.
Amongst the hustle and bustle of all the tourism on the market, to see her sitting there, this young coach driver was completely absorbed in her book, lost to the world around her.
The Coachmen take advantage to do various activities, as you will see.
Some get together for a chat, some check their phones, others check their gear, a few read…
This is all after taking care of their horses! They come first. I observed how well the horses were cared for in the special 'stop'.
Halfway through each ride horses make a stop and the horses are fed, they get water and a rest. That is at the Beguinage and then here, on the market.
Some coachmen work every day, others work only two days a week for tours. Their horses are not working every day: most horses work every four days.
Some coachmen work the whole week, with often six horses to do the work or the tours.
She is wearing a ‘canotier’, a ‘boater’ which is made of straw, the boater was and is generally regarded as a warm-weather hat.
It is normally made of stiff straw. In cooler weather it is a bowler that they wear.
To take a romantic trip through the heart of Bruges along the canals, over the typical small bridges, on the rhythm of the hooves of the horse, one of the most famous sounds of Bruges.
Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*)
