052 OF NARROW BACK-ALLIES…

DAY 4

This is the Strostraat (translation: Strawstreet), A narrow alley, since the Middle-ages-> a street, yes this is Brugge!

A bridge over the St. Annarei, the canal this is heading to, was mentioned already in 1305 the Strobrucghe.

The origin of the name is doubtful. It could have had something to do with straw, for example, if there was a storage place for hay and straw in the periphery.

It is not excluded that the Straw family here could serve as origin. The name was known in Bruges and maybe a ’Straw’ lived near the bridge or in the street.

The Strostraat runs from the St. Annarei to Jerusalem Street.

Typical Brugge, cobblestones, leaning old walls, narrow, it does take you back , strange feeling…

Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*)
