WEDDING TOP HATS...

There are few photographers (well, I never met one) who really ‘enjoy’ taking wedding photos, probably because it is ALWAYS nerve-racking, you are more than ‘the photographer’, you deal with people (and kids) who are out of their comfort zone, a nervous bride and often even more nervous groom, dressed up, things go wrong. The weather is not what was expected!
Then they have to meet new people, two extended families thrown together for one day…
Now with digital cameras maybe a little less so, no fiddling and keeping track of your film, you can quickly check if you have got the right moment with good expressions, but there are still moments during the ceremony that you only have literally ONE shot at…
Yet wedding photography is a massive part of the industry, very important for the couple, and a great record for posterity, look how things have changed over the years, the clothes, make-up and hair, the flowers AND the style of photography!
Also often it’s the only time families are together in a photograph, the older people can come out of the retirement home and are cherished and pampered for the day, the babies are cooed over, the young children run riot to the despair of their parents who had hoped for a day ‘off’.
As the photographer, I cannot resist constantly looking for the ‘personal’ shots, the image that will make it ALL worth while for me as a creative… I’ve made it my ‘game’, to come away from each wedding with a different imaginative image, thing is, when the couple see it, it often becomes their favourite very quickly, tee hee.
This is one of them, the ceremony was over, everybody had arrived for the reception before the meal.
The men, feeling a bit awkward, couldn’t wait to get rid of the top hats, put them on a chair; the sun came in through the window, people started to come in, I had only a brief moment to take this, how could I resist, he?
