030 THE INKWELLS and the story…

DAY 3

At the end of the 14th century, the Brugse Vrije (Free Region of Bruges) formed part of the County of Flanders, one of the Four Members of Flanders together with Ghent, Bruges, and Ypres.

The government of the Brugse Vrije first assembled on Burg Square, where so many civilian, municipal, and ecclesiastical official buildings were.

We’re in the alderman’s hall, and Away from the ornate fire-place, there is a massive table, green felt coated, with two ornate brass inkwells, the light is good, I like what I see.

I am very intrigued buy the cord and hassle hanging. I go in search of an explanation, nowhere to be found.

I go back to a lady in the other room, sitting silently at a desk and ask her, a wry smile, she replies, connected to a bell, to call people to counsel… I thank her and say, ‘only I could not find it anywhere’ only for her to reply, ‘madame, if everything was explained or written there would be no mysteries left……’ I am flabbergasted and on my way out just say over my shoulder, that I know a lot because I have always had a hunger for knowledge. Later, outside I discover the turret that houses the bell.

I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*)
