LOVE ME TENDER… PRAWN

I'm regularly commissioned to photograph seafood, after the 'proper' shoot I then can have some 'freedom and fun' before we eat the props... if we still can, because food photography is very much about 'tricks' to make it look shiny, fresh, attractive and appetising, which we try to avoid out of respect for the food!

 

These here are prawn, NOT shrimp…

Prawn vs. Shrimp Physical Appearance

Prawns and shrimp both have claw-like legs. But prawns have three pairs of claw-like legs while shrimp have two.

 

While the bend in the body of a prawn isn’t clear, it is clearly visible in shrimp. Prawns have branched gills and shrimps have lamellar or plate-like gills.

 

Each segment in the body of the prawn overlaps the one after it. That is, the first segment overlaps the second and the second segment overlaps the third.

 

In shrimps, the second segment overlaps the first and the third segment. Also, the legs of prawns are longer than those of shrimp. The front pincers of shrimp are the largest, while the second pincers are larger than those in prawns.

 

Hope this brings a bit of joy again rather than Angst which I see in so many images and news.
