ANOTHER UNIQUE VIEW...

The sky was still white with heat... I was standing on a bridge over yet another canal, on both sides: 3 to 4 rows of trees deep on each side. Over the years, some of them were diseased, chopped down, replanted with young ones, these are hurrying to become as tall and majestic as the old ones.
It was a very hot day, we'd meandered the narrow small roads of Flanders, in an air-conditioned car, stopping whenever we saw something of interest. Waiting for 'better', evening, light, planned to be around Damme again.
In the Middle-Ages, this used to be the harbour of Brugge, one of the wealthiest cities in the North.
Due to silt the North Sea is now about 25 miles out, but Damme retained it's reputation for good food and beer, wonderful old buildings full of the history of revolutionary Flanders.
Centuries later Napoleon saw the importance of the area and ordered a system of canals to be built.
Today, whichever road you come from, if you want to get to Damme, you'll drive along those beautiful tree-lined canals.
AAAHHH, the peace of the place, can you feel it in this image?
Behind me were siphons and sluices.
A UNIQUE landscape that just goes on and on and on... A photographer's paradise!
