Big Bird, Adelaide _2233

These surfing kites are HUGE! I had no idea just how big they were having only ever seen them at a distance. The whole structure is inflatable which I guess is a good idea for a machine which will no doubt spend some part of its life in the water. By not sinking after a ditch it gives you a chance to relaunch. The 'soft' structure makes them a little less lethal in a collision too.

(Info from a Google search) Although the kite surfing idea had been around from the 60's, Dominique and Bruno Legaignoux, were the first known people to start working on the kitesurfing principal in earnest, and were also the first to apply for a patent on their invention, the kite with a curved wing with inflatable structure, around 1986.

Seacliff Beach, South Australia.
