solidarity for Anna

My amazing niece, Anna, has cystic fibrosis and last fall received a double lung transplant. Her body is rejecting the lungs and she is literally fighting for her life. Her friends asked that we paint one fingernail in a zebra stripe in solidarity and to raise awareness.

Anna has battled this disease her whole life, but she's never thought of herself as sick or an invalid. Indeed, she played basketball, was a cheerleader, in the homecoming court, rode horses, is an artist, has a million friends, was an excellent student, and entered Texas A&M as a freshman last year. Shortly after that she received her new lungs. Our early hopes turned into more challenges for Anna. Throughout her life, and especially in the last year, Anna has encouraged, inspired, motivated, and generally brought light and love into the world of so many people by her example. Anna knows how to live!!

A week and a half ago, the doctors told her she had 72 hours to live. She's still here. She's weak and terribly sick, but she is still fighting.

If you are reading this, will you please say a prayer, send a wish, hold a good thought, breathe some Light and Love -- whatever is your way -- for our dear Anna?

The girl on the left in the link here is Anna about 6 years ago.
