Should Have Gone to Specsavers

Brian was overjoyed when he thought he had encountered a new friend - it was only when he got very close that he realised his mistake...

We can't blame Brian for his unfortunate error as snails have very poor vision. Their eyes do have a lens but lack the muscles needed to focus, so at best it sees a fuzzy image that can only distinguish between light and dark. They also lack colour perception (although some recent research suggests that snails may be attracted to dark green). Such simple eyes are adequate for their purposes, relying more on their keen olfactory receptors to find food.

A role of electrical tape for Macro Mondays theme 'Reels'.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
