A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall
For my first visit to Dartmoor in close to fifteen years, I was hoping for 'atmospheric' conditions suitable for photography - not the dreary drizzle that presented itself for my short two-day stay. I know Dartmoor well but had never been to this location. The first day was generally poor with dull grey skies and flat light, but the second day promised sunshine and scattered heavy showers. We set off for this location with annoyingly non-atmospheric blue sunny skies, but as 'luck' would have it the weather began to deteriorate so it was raining when we arrived here with more showers clearly on the way.
This is the Beckamoor Cross at Windy Post - believed to date from the 16th century but may be a replacement for a much older cross on this site erected to mark the route of the Abbot's Way.
