Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" is a quote from a letter written in 1675 by Isaac Newton to Robert Hooke. It refers to using the understanding by major thinkers who have gone before to make intellectual progress.

The 'giant' that Brian is standing on is the tip of the spire of a conch shell. In Asian cultures, such as Hinduism and Buddism, the conch shell is considered a symbol of purity and abundance. Blowing a conch shell produces a sound that is believed to be sacred, that purifies the environment and brings good fortune.
