To Boldly Go

The tiny snail gracefully launches itself into Space, the final frontier.

For Macro Mondays theme 'Animals'.

A pot of compost I had collected from the compost heap has sprouted some very small mushrooms - this tiny one was perfectly sized as a 'launching pad' for the wee snail (shell just under 1.5 cm long). As often happens, the set-up for the shot took longer than than the photo shoot. This was shot in my greenhouse, shaded by tomato plants. The edges of the pot were covered in some black material and the back lighting is from two headtorches placed above and behind the mushroom. Spraying the compost with a bit of water gave a nice effect in the light.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
