Decay's the Thing
Baby Brian poses proudly, balanced on the petiole of a decaying leaf for his last photoshoot of the year. He wishes a Happy New Year to all his Flickr fans!
Looking for the beauty in decay for Macro Mondays theme 'Redux 2020 - Wabi-sabi'.
My wet and dreary garden was a good source of dead leaves and other bits of detritus for the theme - and of course I wanted to include Baby Brian! But snails are detritivores, consuming dead organic matter, so including Baby Brian was very appropriate.
I had tried a few possibilities, but wasn't entirely happy with any of them. And then the sun made a rare appearance, the bright light streaming through the top of a bush and into my conservatory 'studio'. I set up a small Ribes leaf so it would be back lit - the light would also glow through Baby Brian's tiny translucent body. The lucky bonus of the shot was the bokeh, presumably produced by the dappled light through a very dirty conservatory window.
No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
