The Jewel in the Fern
While on my hands and knees weeding in the garden, I discovered this little Magpie moth Abraxas grossulariata hiding down near ground level. I dashed inside for the camera, and spent several minutes trying to photograph it in its awkward location. Then it suddenly seemed to decide to be more cooperative and fluttered up to a much more agreeable position, and held still long enough for a 14-shot focus stack. This species is fairly common in the UK, but less so in Scotland - I don't recall ever seeing one before.
