Narcissism

Narcissistic Behaviour in Cornu Aspersum (2018) Love, M.L., Proc. Nat. Ac. Snails, Vol 42, p5-12.

For Macro Mondays theme 'Line Symmetry'.

In nature, line (or reflection) symmetry is always approximate. Most animals are bilaterally symmetrical, showing reflection symmetry where the body is divided into right and left halves, although the structures considered symmetrical rarely match exactly.

This image was shot with a small snail (being unable to find a larger one), the distance between the eyes was about 1cm. The snail was photographed using f3.2 as I was looking to keep just the eyes in focus in order to emphasise the bilateral symmetry of the snail's face with the rest of the body out of focus. This individual seemed quite entranced with its image in the reflective surface.
