Adele and the Arch
Adele was my generous hostess -- we communicated with varying degrees of success in English, Italian, pictures, sign language, and that unique language of the kitchen which consists of lifting some object and grunting one's willingness to help. Adele taught school in inner-city Rome before marrying Fabio and moving to Florence/Prato.
Here Adele is looking back over her shoulder in Sienna.
Here also is a fairly typical example of the conglomeration of Italian architectural styles. Note the combination of perfect symmetry and abrupt, half-finished transition to another era and material.
