THE SICK MASAI
Sul confine con il Kenya.
Quest'uomo è un Masai malato. Nonostante i quasi 30°C ha freddo e si scalda con una coperta. Forse ha la malaria. Quando si è accorto che stavo fotografando, mi ha chiesto di regalargli due di quei piccoli cilindri in plastica nera che conservavano le mie Kodachrome . Mi ha detto che sarebbero serviti per allargare i buchi delle orecchie di suo figlio. Dopo pochi anni, sarebbero diventati come i suoi.
Non sarebbe stato così felice se gli avessi risposto: " Sorry, no film! Digital camera!"

This man is a sick Masai. On despite of nearly 30°C he was chilly and warmed himself by a blanket. Maybe he had malaria. As soon as he realized I was taking a photograph, he pleased me to give him, as a present, two of those small black plastic cylinders that keep my Kodachrome films. Told me that they would be for use to enlarge the holes of his son’s ears. In a few years, they would have become like his own.
He wouldn’t be so happy if I had answered: “Sorry, no film! Digital camera!"
