Mack Defense Industries (MDI) Manticore MRAP rear
The Mack Defense Industries Manticore 6x6 MRAP is the latest Class II MRAp in service with the US military.
Produced by MDI, an offshoot of Mack Trucks Inc, the Manticore replaces older Class II vehicles such as the Cougar 6x6, RG 33L, and Caiman 6x6.
Riding slightly higher than previous Class II vehicles, the Manticore is also equipped with a gravitational equalizer at the bottom of the V hull, lowering the MRAP's center of gravity and making it much more effective in off-road conditions.
The Manticore carries a crew of two, driver and navigator/gunner, and is equipped with seating for up to 11 dismounts.
The Manticore is equipped with x2 paired smoke-grenade launchers on either side of the cab, and a twin M2A7 Browning equipped CROWS turret on the roof, along with a wire cutter over the cab.
This particular vehicle, 28, is attached to the USS Excelsior's (FCD 001) Shipboard Marine Detachment (SMD).
