Mullion Cove, West Cornwall

Another week off, this time in June. Luckily the only decent day of the week happened to coincide with an overnight stop in West Cornwall. The highlight of my day out was to sit in the sunshine, on the harbour wall at Mullion, muching on a prawn sandwich, while watching a fisherman trying to extricate his Land Rover from the mud in the habour.

Mullion Cove has a pretty working harbour, protected from the winter gales that rage across Mount's Bay by two stout sea walls. The harbour was completed in 1895 and financed by Lord Robartes of Lanhydrock as a recompense to the fishermen for several disastrous pilchard seasons. You can still see the old pilchard cellar and net store.
