Students build structures using a variety of materials during STEM lesson.
Photos from a recent early childhood hands-on inquiry standards-based lesson Dr. Diana Wehrell-Grabowski conducted for early childhood students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts. Students built a variety of structures using wood and foam blocks, Legos, uncooked spaghetti noodles and marshmellows, and other items. Students observed and analyzed common household and garage items to explore how the objects operate. Students used eye loupes, magnifying lenses, and simple microscopes to observe numerous specimens up close. Students built ramps using corner molding and blocks. Marbles were placed on the ramps. Students changed the height of the ramp, and observed the change in speed and distance the marble travelled after changing the height of the ramp. Students used sand and water wheels to explore STEM concepts. All of the explorations the early childhood students conducted during this hands-on science lesson are also introduced during the teacher training STEM workshops Dr. Diana Wehrell-Grabowski conducts nationwide. www.drdianateachertraining.com
