Chances are you haven’t heard of Lox Chatterbox. There is however, a higher chance that you have heard his music somewhere in mainstream media. When I was asked to review a 4-track demo of an unfamiliar artist’s music, I can say I wasn’t too thrilled in doing so. After listening; however, I was instantly content with researching and finding out what I could about this incredibly talented artist. This I learned:
Lox Chatterbox is the alias given to Morgan Box, the Ex-Frontman for the underground alcoholic ensemble,”40oz. Freaks”. The group lasted from ’04 and mutually split in ’12 – leaving Lox to make his lonesome leap to the world of solo artistry. Although this will be his debut album, Lox Chatterbox has no shortage of heavy-hitters and powerful players on his resume.
He has had many placements with Universal, Angrymob, Megatracks, FirstCom Music, Red Arc and many more of the world’s largest music catalogs and licensing companies. He has music placements for giant companies such as Mountain Dew, E!, TNT, and NBA. He has worked with both mainstream labels from Atlantic, Columbia, and Universal – to Independent artists from Nipsey Hussle, Ya Boy, Afroman, E-40, Copywrite, members from D-12, Living Legends, Hieroglyphics, and tons more. With over 27 published songs already, produced over 100+ songs that have seen iTunes – the list just goes on.
How could you not be at least somewhat impressed? Lox Chatterbox is making an enormous splash into an over-crowded and under-experienced pool of mediocre artists. Far above his competitors, Lox will continue to prove his worthiness of your attention from the moment he is heard- as he did for me. His production is a feat in itself, and would easily be one of the most innovative and intriguing beat-makers I’ve had the pleasure of listening to.
His beats are a mix of anthem-like melodies, dreamlike synths, concrete drums, bone-shifting bass, and just some of the cleanest arrangements of electro/rap beats a mind could imagine. Far beyond my descriptive abilities to give any form of justice to. His voice is extremely intriguing, and instantly taunts you to envision the source. He has a very relatable, playful charisma that almost makes you feel as if you personally meet him through his words.
The songs I am referring to are “Batshit Bananas”, “That Life”, “Never Sleep”, and “Trippin” – the four songs that were given to me for review. The skin of the meat is that, Lox Chatterbox may not be a name you’re familiar with, but it is one that I can see resonating very strongly when this richly talented artist gets that well deserving moment of exposure.
