No Wings
February, 2013:
A pair of battle-weary UP SD9043MACs rumble into River Forest with an eastbound mixed freight. UP was taking delivery of ES44ACs at the time, and several MACs were renumbered into the 3000s, including the trailer, #3519 (formerly #8064).
UP still had around 300 90MACs in service back then and they were not an uncommon sight on the old Northwestern routes. A few months later, several MACs were discovered with cracked frames, and the fleet was sidelined. Both MACs were ultimately sold to Norfolk Southern and rebuilt at Juniata.
