Highway Over Hell
The town of Centralia was not the only victim of the underground mine fire. Just south of the city, a section of PA 61 was closed in 1994 after the roadway received damage from the toxic gases spewing out of the ground. Today, this short section of the highway has become a local tourist attraction, and this was one of the only pictures I took devoid of people.
