Defunct Palace Theater; "Jackson Five Tonight" On Marquise - Gary, Indiana - 5/17/09

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING COMMENTARY WAS MADE IN 2009, BUT FOR A FEW PUNCTUATION EDITS SINCE.

Although the theater is historic, the Jackson 5 NEVER performed there. According to Wikipedia, Donald Trump "dressed up" the front (with those awful, tacky design entrance paper covers, and false windows, now all warped up - also installed the section on the marquise that held the lettering for the Jackson Five reference. This theatre was "dressed" for the "Miss USA" Pageant fake background photos. This one was held in Gary in 2002. Gee, Donald, how about a small chunk of your change to save the thing. Since the Jackson kids were born in Gary (Joe, the father, worked at a steel mill), perhaps a small miracle could occur and a real estate mogul could actually have the vision to save important American historic places and cities, like Gary. I mean, after all, Detroit is in serious decline and what did Detroit have to offer? Only the birth of American automobile, the auto industry, and the American culture that surrounds it. In my dreams, wealthy visionaries would PRESERVE incredible historic old buildings in such areas. If you go to the St. Louis museum in St. Louis, Mo., they have (or did have - I was there in 1999, my late insightful and intelligent favorite cousin brought me here) a display in which a film runs all day long with clips of beautiful old building implosions that have taken place throughout the decades. It seems like there is no end to the clips, mostly in black and white. There is opera music in the background playing as you watch the film. Then, when you gaze around the room there are huge pieces of architectural elements (all from old, historic buildings and places, ripped out St. Louis) that had been removed and are now sitting there for display. It was a chillingly moving exhibit and sickening for anyone who wants to see what once was and is no longer, thanks to "progress" and greed. Anyway, the Donald probably spent a few hundred bucks on this pathetic facade, for a backdrop to another forgettable Miss USA pagent that took place, all while old brick buildings in New York City were being replaced with new mega steel structures or cheesy gold plated interior fixtures. I don't think the word "renovate" is in the vernacular of developers.
