BigBarker
Charlie
I want to share with you some background information about our 5 1/2
year labradoodle, Charlie. We recently adopted him in April 2019. He
had a rough past before coming to us :( He was turned into a rescue
facility in February. After going to two homes and then being returned
in a very short time to the rescue he was adopted by a family. They
had him for only two months before we adopted him from them. The
family was honest on their reasoning for needing to find him another
home. We were told all about him and his personality and they also
mentioned a "problem" with his back right leg. Their vet had said it
was just "arthritis". OK we can handle that we thought. Little did we
know all of the issues he had.
Within in two weeks of bringing Charlie home from Indiana to our home
in Ohio I had made an appointment with our vet for an exam. They
decided to do extensive X-rays and the results were not what we were
expecting. I still remember getting that phone call. Charlie had a
torn CCL in his left leg, Grade 4 Patella luxation in his right leg
and severe right hip dysplasia. Our vet said that Charlie has to be in
pain but probably is just learning to "live with it". He even said
that in a dog with these many issues it wouldn't be morally wrong to
consider euthanasia. Our family was devastated as we just lost our 10
year old labradoodle in January.
So we decided to do everything we possibly could to help him. He
underwent his first surgery in July to correct the left CCL tear. Our
vet's goal (along with ours) was to get him a good back leg as soon as
possible. It was a tough 8 weeks keeping him confined but he recovered
wonderfully! We still need to correct the right knee and we are hoping
with that correction we won't have to do anything with the right hip.
My husband always laughs at me for "being on facebook" but that is
where I saw the BigBarker. Charlie had just a regular pet bed and it
became so "saggy". One day I came home and he was slow to greet me
after getting up from his bed. The bed was practically smashed to the
floor from him laying on it. I knew then we had to order the
BigBarker.
With his future surgery I am confident that his new bed will aide in
his recovery and will help alleviate any pain in the future with his
joints. We want to thank you for introducing the bed to us! He loves
it! He would often hold up his right leg and hobble on three legs for
a few steps after getting up from his old bed. Now he is quick to
greet us and we do not see him favoring his right leg anymore after
laying down.
