Mr. Begote
Atom: Volume 2, #2
Shortly after Volume 1 issue #1...
It was 11:42 at night. Nick Herald was in the office of the man they only called "Mr. Nice Guy." Really his name was Greg, but Greg wasn't really a good name for his face. Greg was at least 6ft with a limp in his step. His hair was flipped and parted on one side. No one who had gone in his office ever came out.
"So... Nick. Right? That is your name?"
Nick just sat there, unable to speak. He nodded.
"So, Nick... I believe we have a problem on our hands."
Nick forced the words out of his mouth.
"Yes sir. An... an accident."
Mr. Nice Guy slammed his hand on the desk.
"Nothing Nick, NOTHING, is ever an accident. Maybe to you, sure, but the outcome... no, no, no... that is no accident."
Mr. Nice Guy slid a folder across his desk to Nick. It said 'ARGUS: Classified File'. Nick opened it to see the paperwork. It read 'Jamie Allen: METAHUMAN'. With the paperwork were pictures. It showed a girl running at super speeds.
"These... things, are inhuman. They may have once been human, but not at this time. You Nick... have just created one of these." Mr. Nice Guy said.
Nick looked up from where he sat. Mr. Nice Guy's face was not happy.
"If you can't tell... the metahumans are not my friend. I want you to get rid of this."
"All the metahumans sir?"
Mr. Nice Guy chuckled.
"No, no. That's someone else's problem. Just get rid... of him."
He pointed to a file. It read, "UNKOWN METAHUMAN." Inside was only a picture. It was a picture taken by one of the security camera's in the building. It showed Nick and a blue light coming from the room behind him.
Present Day:
Dave tried to control the swirling clocks around him. Once he did, he heard clapping. He looked behind him to see the man they called Mr. Nice Guy.
"Beautiful. Just beautiful."
"Who are you?" Dave questioned.
"Someone who admires you. And who can solve some of my problems..."
"Problems?" Dave asked.
"Yes. You see, you and I share a common interest. Taking down Ray Palmer."
"Has he done horrible things to you too?"
"Not directly. But yes, yes he has. If you'd be willing, which I'm sure you would, I'd like you to help me take him out. Of course, I'd help with a few moderations to your powers."
"I don't want these powers..."
"That's why I'm here. I can get rid of them. But take out Palmer first."
"How do you recommend I do that? Ray has been fighting crime for a while. He's on the Justice League. He dated Wonder Woman. You expect me to just take him down?"
All the while the two were walking towards a dark corridor. Dave had not noticed.
"Well Dave.. I think this will change your mind."
Mr. Nice Guy hit a button that opened up a door. He pushed Dave into the room and closed the door on him.
"Sorry Dave... I'm a business man. I get what I want when I want it. Which, is now."
Mr. Nice Guy went to a control panel near by. Dave watched Mr. Nice Guy hit the button on the control panel. He's seen this before. The room at least. In a picture somewhere...
Dave then remembered. It was the same room Ray Palmer became the Atom.
"Have fun catching the Atom, Dave. I'm sure you will after this."
Dave heard the system starting. This wasn't going to end well.
Somewhere else:
Ray turned the key in the lock, and forced the door open. It was depressing coming home alone. Usually Donna had the keys, and she would open the door. It was a lot harder without her.
He walked over to the counter and set down the keys. He turned on the T.V. to watch the news. The channel came on instantly.
"... another incident with the partial generator with someone inside..." the news screamed.
Ray turned to look at the T.V. He had been putting the instant dinner in the microwave, but dropped it when he heard the news.
"... we suspect one casualty, however a body was not found."
They said the same thing on the news when he had become the Atom.
He instantly rushed upstairs and grabbed a box from his closet. Whatever this event was, it wasn't an accident. This did not look good.
He brought the box downstairs and opened it. This adventure was not a colorful one, no. However, he needed to go back to his roots.
Ray stared at the mask he had once worn, before Donna and he had started to date.
"Time to get back into action."
