Tribute Mustang.

It is now history that the 1977 Bathurst Hardie-Ferodo was won by Allan Moffat in that incredible 1-2 in the Ford XC Falcon GS500 Hardtops.

Moffat shared driving duties with Belgian driver Jacky Ickx in car No 1 whilst Colin Bond piloted the No 2 car with co-driver Alan Hamilton.

Fast forward to 2017 the 40th anniversary of the now famous 1-2 event and to pay homage to Allan Moffat and to coincide with the event Tickford commissioned the production of 77 Mustang GT’s to be known as the Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special.

An interesting bit of history is that ‘Build 1’ which came complete with Moffat’s signature on the build plate was purchased and formed part of a private collection where it remained until it was returned to the Tickford stable following an exchange of cash amounting to $170.000.

Quite a nice turnaround selling price considering that the car originally 77 cars were priced from $64.500.

At the annual All American Car Display held in Campbelltown 2024 I discovered another Allan Moffat Tribute car bearing the No 2 decal.

Unlike its counterparts who were released from the stable of Tickford this pony came galloped out of the production line in 1973 and has obviously been converted to being what it is today.

Whilst we know that potentially there are 77 Mustangs out there carrying the No1 decal this pony certainly gained some attention and it is most likely the only No2 Mustang Tribute car in circulation.
