Built by the Italian ship builder Fincantieri at a cost of US $300 million Dawn Princess was launched 11th July 1996 with her maiden voyage taking place 10th May 1997.

 

Owned originally by the Carnival Corporation the Dawn Princess was destined to service the Australian sailing season between October 2006 and March 2007 which would have meant that she would have been the largest cruise ship to be based in Australian waters.

 

Carnival announced on 7th October 2015 that Dawn Princess would be transferred to its subsidiary company in Australia P&O Cruises where it would undergo a name change.

 

On 26 May 2017 at Sembawang Singapore dry dock the newly named Pacific Explorer underwent a refurbishment before being put back into service.

 

Pacific Explorer arrived in Sydney on 19th June 2017 where she remained for 3 days before departing on her maiden voyage to the Pacific Islands.

 

Still currently in service Pacific Explorer boast a tonnage of 77,441 Gross tonnage with a length of 856 feet (261 m) and a beam of 105.6 feet (32.2 m) and has the capacity to cater for 1998 passengers with a crew compliment of 924.
