Weathered door.

 

I cannot imagine how long this door has been left to the elements nor can I imagine how many people ever passed through it.

 

It was once an entrance door to a now abandoned church which still stands and even its wooden covering is now feeling the years of loneliness and aging as its paint is now peeling away leaving only dry splitting exposed wooden boards.

 

The cause of the closure of the church is unknown but perhaps it was due to more modern means transport which allowed the parishioners the opportunity to travel into town or maybe it was a case of natural attrition as people moved away.

 

Whatever the reason what remains is memories for those who once attended this small country church and a large number of those people are still living in the district.

 

There can be so many and varied reasons but what I do know for certain is that the old wooden door remains and no doubt it will remain until the elements of nature claim victory and the door is no more.
