This may have been a parting kiss, because it was only 10 minutes later that the bird on the left (your left, not the bird's) took its maiden flight, not to return.
If anyone knows better please correct me, but it is my belief that once a kestrel chick leaves the nest, that's it. There is no coming home to roost at night. Well, that is the way I see it.
