Last year the Tamil Nadu Corporation Board of Education introduced "Activity Based Learning" in all primary government schools across the state. This program has eliminated the use of textbooks. Instead the children sit and study flashcards in groups around the room. The teacher sits on the floor and answers their questions or assists them when necessary. Each child is esentially doing a different lesson and is self-directed.
The teacher must monitor the progress of each student as they work individually through the activities.
