io Conventions Joint Liaison Group (JLG) Principals Meeting - September 2025

On September 2, 2025, the principals of the three Rio Conventions met at the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany, for a Joint Liaison Group (JLG) meeting.
Yasmine Fouad, the new Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), chaired the meeting, which was her first in this capacity. Joining her were Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
The executives discussed progress since their last meeting, priorities for cooperation for the remainder of 2025, and ideas for joint advocacy and thought leadership. The JLG supports countries in identifying synergies at the national level to implement the three conventions, which address the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and desertification.
