In August 2025, Yasmine Fouad led the 2025 Global Changemaker Academy for Parliamentarians in Eschweiler, Germany, on her first field visit as Executive Secretary of the UNCCD. The academy explored a former lignite coal mining region undergoing profound transformation. During the visit, participants explored how the energy transition presents a powerful opportunity for large-scale land restoration.
