DW Media Forum 2025: From aid to investment: New narratives for a sustainable economy
by UNCCD
In a world increasingly overwhelmed by crises, the value of nature, and the cost of neglecting it, are often overlooked. Half of the global economy relies on healthy ecosystems and with 40 percent of the world’s land already degraded, the consequences of inaction are mounting. Environmental decline is not a distant threat; it is already driving food insecurity, economic instability, and lost livelihoods. The real question is not whether we can afford to invest in nature, but how much we stand to lose if we don’t. How can we shift public perception to reflect this urgency? What stories will inspire action before the damage becomes irreversible?
This session will explore how journalists, economists and industry leaders can reshape the discourse around nature-based investments. By addressing the challenges of storytelling in a world increasingly desensitized to environmental crises, we will discuss how to create compelling narratives that resonate with policymakers, businesses and the public be going beyond climate change alarmism.
